Servicing and Oil Change
I've just bought a new 3 year old A4. Has Audi UK service history with 3 services last at 68K miles (currently 69K).
Car has now started telling me it is due a service in 8K miles.
Turns out the car has been serviced at the Audi dealer but they didn't change the oil or filter - that was done by a third party (for reasons I wont go in to)
As I cant verify the oil change was done or not (though I think it has) I want to do a new oil and filter change to make sure, but I don't want anything unusual to show up on the service history either. If I go back to an Audi dealer I will end up with a stamp at 68K and another at 69K which is going to stick out like a sort thumb in the history.
So, I will take it to a private garage and get the oil change done.
Questions:
Will they be able to switch the car to variable service and reset to start now (its only done 1000K since the last service)
Would I be able to do it myself - I seem to remember hearing there is a way to reset the counter, but dont know whether it can switch between fixed interval and variable servicing?
If I cant reset, will I be OK to ignore the service message in 10Kmiles and take it to the dealers after 20K miles instead. This will make the distances between services more uniform in the service book. Would Audi refuse to service it or would they just service and stamp as normal?
Do I need a special type of oil in order for using variable service?
Thanks in advance
