Everytime i use tiptronic in my 98 1.8T and i shift from 3rd to 4th gear while hard on the gas it will shift back into 3rd and redline the RPM.
any reason why it does this?
And will a Tip chip fix this problem?

learn about the kickback system i think it is.. there's a button under your pedal that releases everything your car has.. if you are using your car tiptronically, and you floor it in 4th gear, it will downshift to make your car as fast as possible.. it's in the manual.. i think it's called kickback system.. or kicker system? something with kick..

release potential rpms that your losing in higher gear by kicking it down. All tiptronics do it and its annoying as ****.

If you have vag com you can program it so that the kickdown is disabled in tip mode. I did it on mine.
