Default shifting troubles

hey hows it goin, i have an 03 a4 with the 3.0 quattro, 6 speed manual tranny... i have been driving standard for about 5 years now starting with a probe gt then to an 03 mustang gt and also an old 89 pick up, with the audi i am havin the hardest time "learning" how to shift it, it seems like the clutch either grabs completely or theres no grab at all especially in the lower gears, i dont really think theres anything wrong with the cluth or tranny, when i shift ill try to ease out the clutch pedal and ease on the gas sometimes it either kinda wines then goes or other times it clunks n goes i know its my timing but for some reason i just cant get it down to a consistency like i was able to with my other vehicles and its getting to the point where im more frustrated with the car than anything else and im seriously considering trading it in or selling it, any feedback on what i should do or what i may be doing wrong? maybe somthing is slightly wrong with the car idk... help!!

Sounds more like something wrong with the car. I had a 5speed A4 2.8 and I had only driven a stick a few times before. I got used to it really quick. Try searching around on here and see if you can find anything else out from someone having the same problem. I would also take it in and have it looked at. Do you hear any clunking or anything abnormal?

Josh

P.S. WELCOME!!!!

I wonder if the clutch itself is a little loose or something. i would think you would hear it but IDK. Also does it slip at all when it's in gear?

i think its just your timing. it took me a while to get used to my car and even now and them when im tired ill buck it a little here and there, otherwise most people that drive my car even if they now how to drive either ride the clutch[:@][:@][:@], stall[:@], or buck the hell out of it.[:@]. so i say keep praticing and itll eventually become second nature.

dont Audi clutches grab pretty high? every other stick Ive driven the clutch usually catches about halfway from the floor to the top, but with any Audi I've driven it seems like the catch point is about an inch or two from the top. So if you've been driving other stick cars for 5 years it's possible that you're way used the way those "half way up" clutches work. Just takes some time getting used to is all.

oh yea, I remember there was a DIY mod I read a while back where someone drilled a new hole for the clutch cable and it lowered the catch point. try to do a search for it either here or on AudiZine. if you do the mod it'll prolly feel like all the other clutches you're used to.
