Default shimming a DV?

Hey guys,

So, I just got a new Forge Diverter Valve to install in my 1.8T and I've been reading different installation instructions, and some people are recommending "shimming" the DV by opening it up, and dropping two 33x2.5mm washers into it, putting the spring back in, and installing it in the car. What do you guys think about that? Is it worth it? I'm not really racing or anything, just driving to and from work every day like everyone else, cause I didn't hit the lottery here YET AGAIN!

anyway, let me know what you think! thanks!!!

That changes the spring rate (sort of), but I don't think it's necessary. Especially since you are not driving the car in any radical fashion or under extreme conditions.

Which Forge did you get (there are about five models)?

don't bother with that mod - no has proven that it really helps maintain higher boost.

If it's a stiffer spring you're after, why not just buy one with a stiffer spring by design?

I got the Forge 007 Diverter valve (just a polished silver one, not one of the cool colors...), and just wasn't sure if there was any value in shimming it, especially since I'm not racing or anything. Thanks for the info, guys! I'm going to install it today. Do you think that I'll notice any kind of performance gain from it as far as overall pickup/HP goes? Some of the stuff that I've read online suggests that you can feel the difference.

You probably won't feel any difference unless your stock DV was sticking. Nevertheless, your car will perform better.
