Shopping for a used 1.8T Quattro
I need some help!
I'm currently shopping for a used 1.8T Quattro. What sort of problems have any of you heard/experienced with these cars? I would like to find a low mileage one. I've seen some 1.8's in what I refer to as high mileage ( close or over 100K) for sale under 8000. Most of the under 50K cars are going for low to mid teens. I would like to know what sort of maitenence costs these cars have. What are the achilles tendons of these cars?
Thanks for all your help Audi fans. I am the original owner of a 98 A4 2.8Quattro and love it. It has been problem free. I plan on letting the wife have it and buy myself a used 2001 A4 1.8T Q.. . Any of you who have modded your 1.8's, are they reliable? Of course it depends on what you do. I'm thinking about an intake/ exhaust and ECU for starters. What kind of real world numbers do these mods get on a 1.8?

I've been doing some good reading here. You guys are fantastic. I just read about someone on their 3rd turbo. Needs exhaust is what most recommended.
. Just thought maybe someone had a quick thought for me on the 1.8's reliability before after modding.
What have you heard/experienced?
Congrats on a great site here folks.

As long as you aren't putting anything over a K04 turbo in the car is very reliable, you just gotta put synthetic oil in every 3-4k and treat it correctly. With the 3 mods you listed your looking at high 14's I'd imagine. Those mods will suite you well, I recommend you go with this car and get those mods... Make sure its under 60k, and if its over make sure the last owner did all the 60k matnience to it (Timing belt, fluids, etc etc...)
Just look for a clean car, with a clean record, get the miles as low as possible in the budget you're set! Good luck man, you'll enjoy the car
For the three mods, depending on who or what you go with, your probably looking at...
Chip and Diverter Valve: 535$ - 625$
Exhaust - 600$-800$ (Without 100$ install or whatever is charged)
Intake: 250$ - 322$
So your looking at 1800$ max, those mods offer sound, speed, less restriction and will really bring you closer to your car, you'll love it!
I wish you luck on your search

I have a 01 1.8T all stock till i get some more money. lol got the car with 67xxx and love it. it is my first car that i have personally owned and havent had a problem yet. the only thing i had a problem with was my radio code not working but 45 bucks to the dealer and an hour later everything was fine. the 1.8t has the most things to mod with. if you are going to get one look for one with the sports package cuz you are going to want to lower it. otherwise coilovers run around $1000+ and springs plus struts are $700+. gl and let us know what you do.
Thank you both for the helpful info.
I've owned 2 Quattro's . First was a new 80 Q in 1988. Then I bought a 98 2.8 Q ( still have it). I needed some info on the 1.8T's. What is a common problem to look for on these motors. Turbo failure?

like all used cars, they're not in perfect condition. eventho tha previous owner claims they are, theres alwaiz a reason why they're sellin tha car. unless they're flat bankrupt or something in that nature.
matter of fact, new cars arent alwaiz perfect either. i just bought a 2007 a4 and it might be a lemon. it's been at tha dealership half tha time i've owned it. lol imma lawyer up soon for tha lemon laws.
bottomline: CARS ARE A BAD INVESTMENT! either new or use. just make sure you get a great deal if u get a used one and have a mechanic look it over if you dont know shii

I bought a 1.8T because the last owner had it on LEASE (Ever heard of that) which is the best thing to fully buy, cause its value is lowered but it hasn't been beat up like a bought car might have been.
Not to mention you type "Always" "Alwaiz" which doesn't shorten it and makes you look like a 12 year old.. so please gtfo with your claims and pointless post.
