Default short shifter?

hello people,
i just recently bought a 1999 a4 2.8 quattro. i love this car in it's mostly stock state (except for 17"wheels/tires, and s4 seats) the shifter has a bit of slop, also the brakes could use a bit more stopping power. any recomendations on short shifters? i was considering the Neuspeed model. also the brakes, without doing the big brake upgrade and just going for slotted or drilled rotors and new pads would that give much more stopping power? thanks in advance for any advice.

I would highly recommend the Neuspeed one, I have it and love it. Shifts are short and precise.

I have an el cheapo short shifter...$15 from ebay. Shift reduction is great and there is a huge difference in the feel of the shift...much more solid And no slop. I had to make some adjustments after installing but the shifter works and feels great. Adjustments included: adjusting height of shifter assembly to keep it from binding on the bottom, addition of spacer at pivot point to fill slop in connection. Not the most DIY install but you get what you pay for.

If you decide to install the short shifter yourself make sure you have "good" snap ring pliers (aka circlip pliers).

thanks for the info guys, especially the tools requirements. i was thinking of doing it myself and wasnt sure what i would need. seems pretty straight forward, other than removing the plastic cover that goes around the shifter. thanks again.

the plastic cover seems to be a bit brittle, it covers the shifter and goes up into the dash. obviously i don't want to crack this. is it installed with clips or what?
