ummm, install is frustrating, but not terrible, just take your time and if you have a friend to yell at, it may make things a little easier...

I wouldn't be surprised if you had a 30v 97...check to see if the #s from da car match da motor....

I have the interior of a 98 and the exterior of a 98.5 and I have factory wood trim on a 1.8T....I think audi just uses all of their old stuff till they run out, then they just add whatever they have...

"we're all out of 12V'S!"..."uhhh?, just put in a 30!"

have fun on da install, u gonna go w eBay?
Yeah ebay is the way to go. Nice quick transactions. I have a gold 97 with black rims with chorme lip.eibach suspension, Cold air Intake, black out headlights and tail lights 12 inch sub in the trunk idk but i just put on my snow tires and with quattro that is like glue

i have a 97 2.8l V6 30 valve, 5 per cylinder. I've had my engine apart and individually looked at each valve three on top and two bigger ones underneath them
Then your engine was replaced at some time. It is common knowledge that the 30v wasnt introduced until the 98 model yr.

I think I read somewhere that the first A4's manufactured under the 1998 model year actually went on sale around mid-1997 - maybe it's just a confusion in the mix?

i would agree with that lol! on b6 rear rotors, you can have either a puny 255mm or microscopic 245mm.. even dealers say there is no rhyme or reason to which one you will have, you must take off the wheel and measure... even with the vin, there is no way to know.. how can an assembly line work like that?[sm=wtf.gif]

Do you have the removable trim around the shifter? I'm not sure which years came with what consoles but mine is the one with the removable leather boot and that's it. If that's what you have, you can do the install without removing the whole console. The only issue you will have is you can't replace the slide bushings with the delrin bushings that come with the kit but they're not really needed. I did my shifter in about 30 minutes.

I definately recommend getting one though. My shifts are fun and fell grat compared to the stock hunk that came out.

I wouldn't do it on a stock A4. The flywheel feels as if its made of lead and the engines revs take their sweet time falling off. It's like that on every Audi i've driven. Compared to my MR2 and BMW its a very noticeable diffrence in just how much you have to slow down your shifts in the Audi. To drive smoothly without wearin the synchros and clutch you'll either find yourself pushin clutch in waiting a second shifting into gear then waitin a sec and lettin clutch up. I find even with the stock shifter 1-2 has to be a very slow deliberate shift,2-3 is slow,3-4 feels like 1-2 on the MR2 or bmw and 4-5 is fine. I never understood the need for a short shifter on cars that don't need them, why speed something up that needs to be slowed down such as the shifting. When driving stick under normal conditions the passengers in your car shouldn't feel the shifts and they should be smooth. Same on the road course, sudden, jerky shifts upset the cars balance. Watch a profesional race on youtube with an inside cam of the car. The shifter isn't shorter then stock and if anything its prob longer. When entering or exiting corners the driver will shift slow, smooth and deliberate. If you have a Light weight flywheel i could def understand the need for a short shifter, just not for normal driving on a stock car. If the shifter feels slopy just change the bushings. Ask yourself whats your reason for the short shifter before you do it.
