Default Should I "chip" it?

just bought a '01 A4 1.8T Quattro.
it doesn't take long to find out that you can quickly add 20-40 HP simply by chipping this car.
i've eyed up the Nuespeed chip primarily b/c of the companys reputation

here's my dilema, if this extra hp could be gained without ANY adverse effects , lets face it the factory would have done it. a cars price is affected by its HP, so they would've had a higher sticker on the car.
just knowing a little about engine mechanics my first hunches of adverse effects of "chipping" would be more blown gaskets, decreased life of the turbo, and just plain decreased engine life.

but these are only educated guesses and nothing more, let me ask the pros...............

so if you have a chip in your 1.8t (ideally a Nuespeed chip), whats your experience been like? how many miles on the car? on the chip?
help me out, the more responses the better.

Thanx everyone

I haven't heard much good things about the Neuspeed chip APR or GIAC is the way to go they cost a little more but t will be worth while for the long term yes it might shorten engine life by putting extra load on the engine but not by much think of it as smoking doctors say it will reduse your life by like 10 years I know people that are in there 80's still going strong smoking maybe a bad example but you get my point

I'm getting GIAC chip installed by AWE on the 12th. If you think its worth it get it. BTW I wouldn't get Neuspeed chip, go with APR or GIAC.

why would you say that the nuespeed chip isn't as good?
i put a lot of weight on the fact that nuespped has a strong reputation, maybe i'm just a green but i've never heard of GIAC, and feel a little uneasy putting my faith in their product.....

thanx allready for all the input, i really appriciate it...

so does anyone out there actualy have the nuespeed chip?

Giac is ALOT better then nuespeed for performance and prolly from reliabilty. They have been out sooooooo long that there tuning is superb. Thats what im running now and it is great.
