Default Should I??

I have a 1996 1.8 ltr A4 turbo quattro. It has a problem with getting oil to the top end and now just taps. Should I just change motors as this one has done 140,000 kms or is it worth fixing? How long do these motors live for?

It goes.... Tap tap tap tap tap. Sounds like a sticky tappet. I know I have an oil pressure problem & I have oil pan off, oil pump off (how do you tell if that doesn't work) cleaned everything and still have the tap tap tap, like the sound it would make if you took out 3/4 of your oil.

Have you checked the oil pressure?

Audi suggests use of 5W-40 oil. Surprised you would go to the trouble of dropping the pan and pulling the oil pump without checking the oil pressure first.

I wouldn't change motors. These motors will do 200K miles without problems.

Well, the oil light come on & there is a definite tappet noise that started just after the oil pressure light came on.... The car is definitely low on oil pressure. The car does run.. I'm just scared too. Until i sort it out anyway
