Default Side View Mirror

Both of my side view mirrors are beginning to get that weird brown discoloration in them and I plan on replacing both mirrors. I checked Audiworld for any guides on how to do this but all I could find was an article on how to replace the whole housing. I was wondering if anybody who has replaced just the glass in the side view mirrors could give me some tips on how to do this.

I also checked the internet for replacement glass. The only one I could find so far is from an Ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8000718300 Would this work for my car and what the hell is a backing plate? Do I need a new backing plate? Do I need to buy special glass if I have heated side view mirrors? So confused.

Yeah you have the "anti-dazzle" mirrors... with the plastic border around them. They are stupid expensive from the dealer... like, stupid expensive. 100+ a side, for just the glass.
I picked mine up used, both sides, for 40 bucks.
Just keep your eyes peeled... I have seen them on eBay many times. Shoot me an email at chrisrw@gmail.com just so I have your email address handy... next time I come accross a set, I'll email you.

ECS Tuning sells them too. The removal is VERY easy. Just take a clothes hanger and cut two 8" straight pieces or so. Bend the last inch of it into little 90 degree hooks. Slide the hook behind the glass on both sides of the mirror. Pull out firmly until the glass pops out of the ball socket. Then all you have to do is disconnect the wire connector. Installation is cake. Just reconnect the wire and pop the glass into the socket.

I have no idea what an anti-dazzle mirror but I figure I don't have them. There doesn't appear to be any plastic piece behind the mirror. Thanks for all of the help. I figure if I break the thing, I could just by a whole new housing with the glass in it (like I originally planned). BTW, Jetsnomen, you're my hero

hehe thanks. Antidazzle are the mirrors are also called auto dimming. Do yours dim at night? You won't break anything. Just pull the glass out and there should be a part number on the back, then call up ECS Tuning or CLairparts.com for ordering. It's litterally a 5 minute job.

My mirrors dont autodim so they aren't those fancy anti-dazzle ones. Or if they do dim, I don't notice. I ordered some sideview mirror glass from another company....not OEM but I figure if it doesn't work I am out only 40 bucks. Thanks again
