Default Smaller passenger side mirror

Can anyone tell me the purpose or reason for the smaller mirror on the passenger side of the 98 A4? I sold my Audi to a party that questioned the issue of a different mirror put on and wondered about an accident. I wasn't aware of the difference until I saw some postings here. The ones I found indicated there were A4's out there with different sized mirrors but no explanation as to the reason why Audi did this. Any answers?

Thanks!

the early a4s (96-99) came with a smaller passenger side mirror stock. the reason for this is because your blind spot on the passenger side isn't nearly as big as the driver side, so a bigger mirror isn't necessary. personally, if i could find a driver side mirror in the smaller size, i would like two small mirrors more than the two full size mirrors on the later model a4s.

Never heard this one before. In Europe the mirrors are smaller to give you more distance to fit in tight spots/streets. Audi figured out that American's don't need or want gimp mirrors and changed it to a full size one.

if you substitute the word "crack" for every time dlinbh said "stub", it makes perfect sense.
