Smog Failed, need help
So here's the story. I bought an Audi A4, 2.8 Quattro, its a 1999 with 75k miles and a salvage title. There's a check engine light on bu tthe guy said it was the O2 Sensor and that it was working fine. When I went to go get it smogged, everything was fine up until the check engine light gave the smog guy an error. Here are the two errors listed.
P1472: Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction
P0411: Secondary Air Int Incorrect Flow
I went to my mechanic and he said that the vehicle speed sensor will cost 300 dollars but i dont know if its jsut the front sensor or the back. And for the air injector incorrect flow, he said there could be alot of things wrong, there's like 6 different parts for that thing. so i'm wondering can anyone point me in the right direction as to what i need to get to fix the car so i can pass smog. also, if anyone has these parts for sale, can you give me a PM with the price and part?

can you point me to a repair book or something? what does it mean short to ground? does it mean that the speed sensor is not grounded properly? also how do i check for leaks in the air intake system?
The codes you quoted have nothing to do with the speed sensor.
They are for the evaporative control system and the combi valve.
the instructions for trouble shooting these are rather complicated> You will need to get hold of a Bentley factory manual to do this yourself.
Short to ground, means that there is a short circuit in the system between one of the wires and ground.

I have the same code on my 2002 A4. I ended up having my Breather Valve and Solenoid Vac Valve replaced. Cost me $50 for Breather and $88 for Solenoid, plus tax and labor. Oddly enough..engine light is still coming on! Have been back once since...this time they will need to fix it for good..will let you know if it was money wasted or was misdiagnosed..may help solve your problem.
