Snub + Shorrt shifter installed for $400?
Does that sound right? I think I'm being charged a lot of labor. He said snub was 50 + 190 for short shifter ... so including tax he quoted $400 out the door. It's streetwerke people at Palo Alto, CA.
I'm kind of new to cars although I have a strong interest in them. The only thing I've done to cars is install a stereo and speakers in my old Nissan ALtima. So I'm not sure if I'm capable of doing it myself but some folks told me I can because I do most of other mechanical/electrical work around the house, snub mount install should be easy.
So what should I do now? I'm sure I can bargain a bit and end up paying maybe $340 cash... would that be a fair price or should I take the challenge of DIY?
Thanks for input.
BTW(off topic).. .the mustang thread is so funny....

short shifter install is a definite DIY. there's an article on AF to help you out with it. as long as you got the tools you should be ok. i haven't done the snub mount yet so i don't know. but some people tell me its pretty easy. just kinda hard getting to it. what year is your car?
It's a B7 2005.5
Appointment is on 4th august. I think I will see what tools I need and confirm what I am up for, then I may cancel the appointment.
If the deal goes through for 300 cash, I'm definitely up for it. ... I may let it slide for even $340 the most so I don't have to get my hands dirty.

thats cool....i'm not very mechanically savy but i was able to do the SS install myself...if i can do it then so can you...all you really need is a torx wrench, socket wrench, pliers and some grease...nothing too crazy...read up on the write up...you'll see how easy it is.
If ur not tools oriented or mechanicaly inclined, dont try this, its a lil tricky because u have to work in a tight area.
btw- One of our senoir members tried this **cough..apg....cough....apg...**, the ss install, he ended takeing things apart like 2times, till he got his ez out to work, but its all good,he got it right in the end. GO APG!!!!

at teh place i buy my parts from to install a snub it 275 and for a shirt shitfer at my mehcincs was aroudn 250 but i had to have my console removed b/c i didnt have a shifter plate. I ended up doing the short shifter myself and im thinking of having a family friend taht is a good mechnic (races his hand built dune buggy in Baja every year) to install a snub with me.
Your looking at 3 hours if not more for those two installs. I've never seen a shop that got less than $60/hour, so that's $180 right there. $400 unfortunately sounds about right to me. You should try and DIY though. Something about knowing you installed it makes the upgrade even better.
Yes,
That isn't "too" bad for that to be done with the parts included, but I'd definitely recommend installing the STS yourself... It's not that hard, but you do need patience. The snub mount I'm not sure about, but I'm installing it today so I guess I'll find out. Also getting the K04 installed today too! Can't wait!

Way too much for the install. The short shifter would only take an hour and a half tops. The snub mount only takes a half hour of labor.
