So I called Mobil 1 and som1 is lying.
SO I been looking to find the absolute best oil for my A4TQM @145Kmiles, I currently run 10W-30W Mobil 1 on all my cars.
I was going to switch to M1 0-40W as others on here have recommended, but there’s a lot of talk about Mobil 1 not being a full synth and it uses a group III base now. With our sludge problems I wanted to make sure I got a group IV oil. Well according to the bobistheoilguy.com M1 as well as PP(penzoil plat.) went cheapo and went group III w/additives, which is no better then a 50/50 full synth/mineral oil mix. There was a lot of back and forth on those and other forums.
So I called M1 tech line (1-800-662-4525) and asked them directly, they said ALL of their oils, regardless of weight or type, are group IV, so...yeah someone is lying, but who is it them or is it the bobistheoilguy site that everyone here loves so much?
anyone got any definitive answers?

Do a little google search on Mobil 1 being fake.
Yes, it is not a true full synth anymore. It's still a Ok oil, just not a premium oil anymore.
I would use Redline, Amsoil Euro 5-40, Shell Rotella T synth.
The best way to fight sludge is regular oil changes, no matter what oil you use.

old news... search www.bobistheoilguy.com - lots of mobil 1 info there including the G3 base stock info...
according to this http://www.syntheticsbestoil.com/mobil.htmall "synthetic oils" are base III stock, (even the Castrol Syntec audi recommends)Except AMSOIL...sounds like written by someone on AMSOILS side, but who really knows the truth...so if both modil 1 AND castrol syntec use crude base, why pay almost $2 more /qt for castrol....anyone?
