So I was feeling confident after work last night...
Decided, what the hell - I don't need to wait til the weekend to do the timing belt job. So at 7pm I starting taking the front end off the car.
By 11:30 I was done - with water pump and thermostat changed and a new snub mount installed - only thing left was to put back the bumper. But I left that off because I need to replace a couple hoses for the Secondary Air pump this afternoon - need to get the parts today.
I took about 50 pictures, so Audiforums very own comprehensive "Timing Belt Change" tech article is in the works.
Overall I can say it was AWESOME to get back to being a greasemonkey and spending some quality time with my baby.
Now if could only get this oil out from underneath my fingernails...

I find that vigorously scrubing your hair with your finger tips in the shower gets rid of the fingernail grease. That, or take a tooth pick and go to town.

I decided not to separate the radiator. I removed the service section (read: the front end) of the car in one piece - it swings to the right, still attached by some steel hoses and the wires to the rad fans. Saves time and still allows you to get at everything. You still have to diconnect the upper and lower rad hoses of course.
I detailed pretty much every connector and every bolt. Just need to find time to write it up this weekend.

If you use the long bumber bolts in place of one bolt for the lock carrier(radiator holder) on each side and remove the rest fo the bolts you dont have to completely remove the lock carrier. You can slide it out far enough to reach everything. Then you have something to lean on too. Your also less likely to damge the hoses or wires.
