so my rearview mirror fell off
i was in the dentist and came out and my rearview mirror was sitting in my passenger seat.....i dont have any power running to my mirror...just the unit itself.....there is just a black ring that doesnt seem to stick out very much at all and some glue residue....i just wanted to make sure putting this back on is as easy as scraping the old stuff off and glueing it back on....and is there any "special" glue im supposed to use? i was gonna use gorilla glue....i mean it holds walls up so i suppose that its good enough for my 8 ounce mirror...ps...driving with a rearview mirror sucks horribly....thanks in advance
I haven't had a rearview mirror for about 8 months now. I have the glue, and the mirror, but I've gotten used to not having one and I don't want it.
They do make special 2 part mirror glue though.

I had the same thing happen to my mirror, so I got some of that special glue you guys are talking about. The problem is, Audi rearview mirrors aren't attached directly to the glass (at least, not in B5 A4's) - for some reason, there's a piece of plastic attached to the glass, and then the metal post that holds the mirror is attached to the plastic. So when I tried the 2-part specialty glue, it wouldn't stick. I even sat there and held it for a solid ten minutes before I got the idea to use packing tape to hold it for a couple hours, and when I took that off the glue had dried and the bracket was still not attached- it just came off with the tape. So I ended up using Gorilla Glue and it worked just fine. You can't even see from the outside that it's yellow, because the piece of plastic it's glued to is black.
Just remember that Gorilla Glue expands A LOT as it dries, so don't put more than a drop or two on there - just a little bit in the middleof the mirror mount; and be sure to wipe the plastic bit on the windshield with a damp cloth first. I "clamped" it in place using a few pieces of clear packing tape around the mount, then left it to sit overnight before I removed the tape and popped the mirror itself onto the ball joint.

When mine fell off, I just went to the local autoparts store and picked up one of those kits meant for rearview mirrors, and it worked fine. No problems at all. Try the mirror adhesive before you resort to gorilla glue.
