remember, it's te 22nd!!!! not this sunday or next sunday, but the 22nd!!!!
Alright I was in SD last night, till about 1230 and had to drive the 15 home and decided to take a little detour and investigate Palomar Mtn.
It was farther east than I thought but I found south grade, it is indeed pretty gnarly, but not as bad as I had thought.
It was nearly 2am and not a soul was in site so I decided to give it a run.
Took 9 minutes up and 11 minutes down. I went down in second as to preserve my brakes. Up however was interesting because most of the tight corners were either at the top of second at almost redline or the bottom of third before I was spooled which means second is too short and third is too tall, I found that it was best to just leave it in third and basically lug through the corner with the torque.
I used to own an S2000 and I could see how it would be much better suited for this road. The Audi gets it done but the S2000 has nearly a 1000lb weight advantage and the gearing is better for this road.
I was also kinda disappointed that it's only ten minutes of driving but I am used to about an hour of mountain roads in each direction.
I am still excited for October 22... Just wish I had more meat on my tires....

the roads in Julian are a little bit shorter and tighter, the road doesn't go far enough to even get to 3rd gear, and the roads in the Borrega dessert have a couple long straight to hit 4 gear then there's sharp turns so you gotta hit the brakes hard and crank it to 2nd gear.
BTW, it's apple season in Julian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
