Default some newbie questions

hey everyone, new on the forum... first, the specs of my ride. 1996 Audi A4 2.8L, Manual, Quattro. Now on to the questions...

Ive been lookin around on the net and havent been able to locate a good exhaust system, or a performance chip for my 96. Anybody have or know where to find either of these items??

Im lookin to modify just a touch, mostly suspension and some engine mods...

so what are my best bets to bump the hp and improve on road handling... im looking at neuspeed springs, with bilstien shocks... or maybe a tein coil over system.. thoughts? opinions?

Help me out people... thanks

welcome to the forums, audiandajeep. i hate to tell you but your car is not very modable at all. there are no prefabed exhausts available, but you can get a custom setup at a muffler shop. no chip is available either, and there are no engine mods that are going to give you any significant gains. suspension is a different story. there are koni coilovers, h&rs (my first choice), tein, stasis, b+g, bilstein...or you can also get a spring/shock combo from any of those manufacturers as well..sway bars will also improve the handling a ton...i would suggest either getting a good intake ($$$) or just modifying your stock airbox and throwing in a k&n panel filter. a custom exhaust would probably give you a few horses. you can get bored throttle bodies that help a little bit too. check out the 12v development forum on audiworld for more mod info on that engine.

yeah bents right thers not much out there for your car interms of engine mods, but go with the coilovers rather than the springs/shocks. Definately call up some local muffer shops and see if you can get a custom mandrel bent exhaust made. Just curious what color is your new baby? Good luck with the mods!

An intercooler is to cool the air being shoved into the engine by a turbo. 2.8's don't have a turbo.

97 and newer wouldnt do you any good with a 2.8l.... Its the 1.8 turbo engine that gets you those competitive gains. Im sure you could shove an intercooler in there, it would look cool anyway. But if someone saw you that knew what it is, and what engine you have, you could possibly get beat to death.

Dont forget about supercharging it! I think its about $7k for that.

Yeah bro, I'm the 2.8 crew myself (although I've got an '01 30V). I'll prolly end up getting an exhaust at somepoint....maybe a chip, who knows....I think supercharging my engine is more like 4-5K.

In terms of the intake, i've always thought they're more for a cooler sound than for any performance gains...but I don't know much about your setup, so maybe it would help. And before you put in a K&N, read up on the oil from the filter screwing up your master air flow sensor (or is that problem not applicable for his engine? I'm still learning too....)

the oil problem is only an issue after reoiling the filter and using too much oil.
