starting problem
bout once a week my 1997 A4 2.8 will not start. The engine turns just fine which tells me that it is not a battery problem. After about the 3rd try it finally starts to chug and it starts. I don't know much about cars but it sounds like the gas is finally reaching the engine and it starts. It usually has problems starting after I have already been driving it the same day.
I have also had it die on me at a stop light. Once I got it pushed out of the way, it took 3 or 4 tries to get it started again.
I had the fuel filter replaced last week but it is still doing it. If the fuel pump was bad would it start at all? Once it starts it runs fine. Is there maybe a leak in a hose that is letting the gas pour out which would empty the lines to the engine?
Thanks

Coolant Temp sensor, my friend.
a cheap part than you can change yourself - do a search on it.
the dying at a stoplight baffles me though. Dun think if the sensor would cause that.

you can also look at the fuel relay if it has one. i had a truck that was doing pretty much the same thing i thought it was the fuel pump. my dad said that i should try the relay before blowing a bunch of money on the expensive fuel pump. im not say that is what it is but you can try it. the on on my truck was about 17 bucs.
mine use to do that a lot...dying at stop lights. sorta got it fixed dealer(2yrs ago) said it was a bad O2 sensor. they fixed it and no more prob unti 2 days ago. my new prob might be related to my dead cat....have to get that fixed soon.
good luck
also you could take off and cleen your throttle body they get gunked up after a while. its not to hard

The dying at stoplights. Does you RPMs bounce? like when you press the clutch the rpm falls to 250rpm then bounces to about 900 rpm then falls to about 500 rpm then climb to 900 rpm and stay steady at 900? The faster you stop the more dramatic the bounce, meaning that when you come to a stop light the RPM s drop to 0 and the car dies.
Solution: put the key in the car and turn the key to "ON" but dont start the car. leave it here for 2-3 minuetes then start your car. this should help if not the computer will correct itself in a day or so
