Default Stock ECU

Hello everyone. I just bought an '04 A4 1.8T. I want to chip it, but I worry about my warranty (which I got to 100,000mi). I know many of you say go for it and don't worry, the dealer won't find the chip, but I'm not sure I have the guts to try it.

So, is there anyway I can get a stock ECU to pop back in there when I have to take my car in to the dealer? Any ideas or thoughts? Thanks for the help.

sorry, I dont have an answer to your question, instead a have a question for you...

how long is that 100,000 mile warranty good for? Reason I ask is the person I am buying my audi from in a few weeks told me that it is waranteed until 100,000 miles.... but I was thinking doesn't an amount of time usually go with that too? For example 7 years, 100,000?

Ask an APR and a GIAC dealer.

I know that the GIAC chip is supposed to be completely undetectable by the dealers diagnostics tools. It says that somewhere on their site. However, I don't see why you can't just get another ECU and pop it in there when you need to take your car in to get serviced.

on a stock box there is a security immobilizer you need to get around, most of the time you can just go to the dealer and program your vin into it and go, but going to the dealer defeats the your whole plan. but there are other ways to get around it like send both ecus to a tuning company and copy the stock file on both boxes.

Get it flashed by apr or giac, & get the stock program as well, & then when going to the dealer just go back to the stock program.

By some law made a while back - no manufacturer can refuse any warranty issue due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that it was caused directly by the modification.

Apr sells stock ecu's for about 600-700$. If you are that worried about them then this is the best way to go but I wouldnt constantly change the ecu's back and forth because it would totally mess with everything.
