It's all about whether or not you want to deal with the maintenance, repairs that are inevitably required. I'm no mechanic but I can read directions/manuals and turn a wrench. The experience of the guys around here is a huge help. But be prepared to spend some money on tools and alot of time staring at things trying to figure out exactly how to do it.

That said ... my experience with Audi (BMW too) dealers has never been good ... but I'm picky as hell about my cars too.
Good luck.

I bought mine from a private seller (not certified) and the original warranty (4yr, 50K) still applies. Got a free oil change at the dealer the other day. Unfortunately I didn't realize it has a sludge problem. At the very least remove the oil filler cap and see if the engine looks clean. You can find my gripes in the alt.autos.audi USENET newsgroup.

The sludge problems for allow for an increase in your warranty for 2 yrs I believe. I have the letter from Audi in my car, where it states that any problems do to sludge will be paid for by them. Hit me back with an email and I'll scan you a copy.
