strange noise and cruise control
there is a strange noise that comes from somewhere in the left front part of the car every time i hit any moderate bump in the road. the sound is like a squeeking noise, and it seems like it might be related to the suspension somehow. what is it? how can i fix it?
my next question is regarding cruise control. iit wont engage. i hit the set button, and nothing. it wont hold speed, and the light in the dash wont come on. what is this all about?
any suggestions/advise greatly appreciated. thanks

I didn't know there is a light for the cruise control. Try holding the button in for a second before releasing it. Spray the switch with Radio Shack contact cleaner.
i dont know about the noise could be a blown shock, my shock did the squiking noise then it was blown, but the cruise control i just got mine fix last month with the same problems. your cruise control button just went bad. they told me used the cruise control at least once ot twice a week. or also it could just need a spray of the radio shack cleaner, and there is no light for the cruise control at least mine dosent have one.
the squeaking is probably a control arm...there are many, you should have a mechanic take a look at it....there is also a recall on some A4s for the front lower control arms, call your dealership and give them your vin, they can tell you if there are any recalls for your car....the cruise control is most likely just the electrical contacts on your switch....remove the steering column surround and spray some electrical cleaner in there....if that doesn't work you'll have to remove your steering wheel, then the switch, and clean them more thoroughly...
There is no cruise light on my car. As for the cruise issue I recently had this issue and it turned out to be the relay. The relay is the most common issue in the cruise control problems of this gen. It cost 300 bux from the dealer and I got it for 195bux on ebay. You could look but make sure you get the new version so you don't have it happen again. The switch can fail but seems to be less offten. The switch requires the whole stock to be replaced at 160bux form the dealer. Good luck
I'm having the same problem now, I just spray the cleaner right on the switch? No opening it up and spraying it inside or anything? Sounds strange to me, but if that's what you mean and you guys say it works then I'm not gonna question it.
the bump noise could be due to loose tie rod ends. get the control arms checked out first though. since audi has a recall on those, the dealer can check 'em out for you for free. you might even get a free car wash
