Default Strange pipe in the drivers side rear wheelarch!

Hi guys - thanks in advance if anybody can explain a puzzling thing for me!

Earlier today my a4 started making a strange fuzzing noise and I stopped an investigated before finding a little pipe hanging down in my wheelarch... it;s about 8mm in diameter and was rubbing against the tyre.

Anybody know what this might be for?.. it goes up into the wheelarch and the other end was hanign down - it never made this noise in the past before so I can only imagine that it has fallen off of something!

it's the driver's side rear wheelarch, it says that in the thread title.

of course, he spelled it "tyre" so that suggests to me he's either in england or australia/new zealand. in which case, the driver's side is actually the right hand side.

Actually an Englishman living in Australia so you were right on all counts!
it's a '96 model
Right hand drive - and the pipe is in the rear wheelarch on that side!

I have the same pipe in my 97 A4 Avant but it can't be a sunroof drain as I don't have a sunroof. Only noticed it whilst cleaning the car last weekend.
