ok i gota 2001 a4 ..and the ashtray underneath the radio is continually gettin stuck closed...its pushed in like 1/8" too far and i gotta like get a little knife to pry the damn thing open...i dont smoke so it doesnt get used everyday but it does have a **** load of quaters in there for parking..and id like to be able to get at them easily...so if any1 has any help for me thanx

 

welcome to the club, that was the first thing to break on my car.

 

all i did with mine was push the lighter(housing) to the right a little and no more prob.

 

coins get stuck underneath the ashtray. take a thin stick of some kind and put duct tape on one end, sticky side out, and just start fishing...you can also remove the whole assembly if you want to..remove the little insert inside the assembly, and you'll see two holes with a clip showing through each hole..stick a small screwdriver through each hole and release the two clips underneath (its a little tricky because they both have to be released at the same time)..pull out the whole assembly, clean, and reassemble.

 

yep mine is stuck too. don't smoke, don't really care.. just bothers me on occasion.. sometimes i forget it's there, so i take a pen or something and pry it open, hoping to find some money in there or something. maybe i'll leave a 20 in there next time i open it. such a great feeling ;]

 

on the 01 how is that thing even supposed to work?? you just push it and it comes out?

i'm tellin ya mine was stuck forever until i pushed the lighter housing to the right and it realligned and it's been good for months,and i use it a lot.

 

mine is stuck and i know if i try to open it i will just get annoyed and rip the entire thing out
