Yeah driving a screwdriver into it with a hammer is the best (cheapest) solution. Always works wonders for me!

I did this and my filter just ripped in half but its worth a shot. Mine was on there super tight, like nothing Ive ever seen before.

Hm never had that happen before. I just got a long skinny driver and pounded it in and out the other side. The filter always turns easy then.

problem it garages/DIYers use the tool to nip the filter up and that's not required "hand tight" is enough

the recommended torque is hand tight + 1/4 turn with the wrench

I hate bringing back dead threads but man, a $4 Wal-Mart filter wrench saved my *** tonight. My Mahle OC264 filter wouldn;t budge with my socket based filter wrench. I ran over to wally mart and bought the wrench and it came right off!

it crazy how helpful teh right tool actually is huh? I got lazy and just took mine o jiffy lube had them rip it off and only let them use mine to replace it. Charged me alot thou.

I was weary of plunging a screwdriver through the filter because if that didn't work I'd be SOL for driving my car anywhere.

You can also take a piece of sandpaper and turn it so the grit is on the filter if you don't have a rubber palm.
