Default stupid question about wheel bolt patterns...

I did search for this, but found nothing relevant on the first couple pages. I also realize that I'm likely going to be flamed for asking this.

I'm looking for new shoes for my ride, and not having a lot of luck. I think this is mostly due to the fact that VW/audi inexplicably decided to use the 5x112 bolt spacing for the wheels. this is the same one that BMW and mercedes use. all other VW's with 5 bolt hubs use the normal 5x100 spacing, wtf audi?

obviously, 5x100 and 5x114.3 are much more common spacings, and wheels with these bolt patterns are therefore cheaper and easier to find. so my question is, has anyone attempted to mount a 5x114.3 (5x4.5") wheel on an A4 hub? 2mm doesn't sound like a whole lot of difference. I realize that there is a difference, so that's why I'm asking. anyone tried this?

i use to have MitsubishiECLIPSE wheels on my A4 thatā€™s 5x114.3ā€¦ and u know mitsubishi has NUTS not bolts, so I think my bolts was lil different shape if not custom madeā€¦ buy yeah itā€™s possible to have 5x114.3 pattern on audiā€¦ not sure if it will cause any problems in a future, i had my Mitsubishi 17ā€ wheels on for 3-4 monthā€¦

If you can get them on the lugz i dont see any reason, but 5X112 wheels arent uncommon go to ebay and google audi rims or google 5X112 rims
they are all over the place, and not more $$$

wheel mfg's don't just make one bolt pattern and one offset - they make a few dozen different ones for all the different cars. one pattern/offset is not more expensive than others. style and mfg is what changes the price

I realize that the manufacturers generally don't just make one pattern and offset, but you can't tell me with a straight face that 5x112 is just as common as 5x100 or 5x114.3... it's just not true.

as for the ebay thing, I'm not buying wheels off ebay, no way. I live in canada, so shipping and duty would cost me an arm and both legs.

guess I'll just keep looking around, but it is interesting to hear that someone has used 5x114.3 wheels on an audi before. I guess it couldn't hurt to try one day with a wheel off a buddy's car when I'm rotating tires or something.

OHhhhhhhhhh.........Canada.......well down here they are the same price if you buy 114.3 or 112, never really looked around to see if there were more styles available in other bolt patterns. I just looked for what fit my ride.
