Stuttering problems, possible Transmission?
I have a 2002 B6 A4 1.8T with Auto/Triptonic transmission.
Recently (i'm at 43k miles), I started experiences stuttering while acceleration between 0-50mph. It seems like it is happening while the transmission shifts. When I switch over to manual mode of triptonic, the problems don't seem to occur.
Some have suggested to me that I should get my ATF oil/filter changed and I'm going to do that.
I would like to know if anyone has had this problem, or anyone knows what could be causing this?

Do the revs change when the car stutters?
A few things could be causing it:
Leaking DV or boost leak, clogged fuel filter or air filter, fouled plugs
I am thinking its not the Tranny, but it would not hurt to have the fluid replaced.
Get fault codes read for sure before attempting any fix.

brrman,
Fuel filter was recently replace. I'm going to replace the air filter tonight as it's overdue. No fault codes came up.
Thanks for all the great advice so far, i'll keep everyone posted.

Guys,
There were two fault codes:
16889 - Idle Control System Malfunction
P0505 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17887 - Brake Boost Vacuum System: Mechanical Failure
P1479 - 008 -- Implausible Signal
Do you think the Idle Control fault could contribute to this? Does this imply a pressure leak?

OK guys I have done some more digging. I replaced the air filter, changed the oil. I checked and no codes.
I have come to the conclusion that it is not the Transmission since the RPMs go up slightly when the hesitation occurs. I don't think it is the fuel filter, since the fuel pump/filter were replace at 35k miles. I just put in new spark plugs and it was doing this before and after the plugs so I think we can rule them out.
What is a DV or boost leak?
