Default surprise on a rainy morning

So I hop in my car to go to work this morning, it had been raining since 6am. So I pull out, flip on the wipers and.... nothing. flip the switch up and down, no response. Nice. No warning either, they were working fine two days ago. Anyone else run into this problem. I've got a 98 2.8. Haven't had time to troubleshoot it yet, but I don't even know where to begin. I'm just hoping this isn't going to cost me a pantload.

There is a common problem with the ignition cylinder that can cause your wipers and other accesories to not work ... but check fuses first

DOH! Same thing happened to me one day last week as I was leaving for work. Hit my switch and I saw them just budge a tiny bit, but would not go. Got out and pulled slightly on the arm. When I got back in and hit the switch again, they worked fine. That was the one and only time (so far) they gave me any problem.

Something I just remembered....

If you just bought new wipers... my pasenger side wiper gets stuck under my hood sometimes when I close it... I bought a 20 inch blade this time but still happens ocasionaly this could cause a fuse to blow or the clutch to disengage (If audi wipers use a clutch)

check ur fuses to make sure there is still power to ur wipers. also check the screw that screws into the wipers to hold them in place, my friend didnt have wiper and after we tighten the bolt the wiper worked. either that or call up an audi service for advice, or read manual

Default time to break out the multimeter

Checked the fuse, but I already knew it was ok as the wiper fluid still works.

So time to get my hands dirty. I guess this will be a good first DIY project for my Audi. Wish me luck all.

the fact that your fluid squirts probly has nothin to do with the actual wipers they should be on seperate fuses unles Im mistaken

I have the same problem. NOW My wipers are stuck in the middle of my windshield!!!!!!. Noticed them a couple of days earlier to be slow when trying to use them. Any updates or Ideas what my problem could be. I have a 99 2.8 Q (tiptronic).

Thanks guys

^ ^ sounds like your's might be seized, another common problem on these cursed cars... a pretty shameful oversight on audi's part, I only say this, because we just fixed my dads siezed wipers -- on his B6!!

So, the B5 wipers seize like crazy, happened twice on the 96 we used to own, happened to my 2000... its a big PITA to tear them out, and get them moving again... and, they use the EXACT SAME DESIGN for the b6... completely insane. Needless to say, my dad was none to impressed. Getting the wiper arms off is incredibly hard too... broke the windshield on the b6 doing it. Do not even TRY to get them off without a puller of some kind (it'll need to be a small one, to fit under the hood)
