Default t belt question

i bought this 99 audi about a month ago and i don't know much about it. i do know it had the 60,000 mile audi tune up but i don't know what all that is. it has 78,000 miles and runs good i just don't know if the timing belt was replaced or not. i wanted to know if theres a way to tell without ripping it all apart.
thanks any help isgreatly appreciated

Remove the top cover in front of the valve cover. If you can
read writing on the belt, it probably was replaced. If the belt
appears to be old, have the timing belt job done.

I followed this write up as a general guide.
http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng35.shtml
However, do a search for torque specs and use a torque wrench.
Most of the WP mounting bolts and bolts w/ 10mm heads are 10 Nm and the crank pulley allen head bolts are 25 Nm. If you search "water pump torque specs" and things like that you should be able to find some bently manual info that techbod or auditech79 posted somewhere here before. good luck and pm me w/ any general questions. I know the right way to put on a wp pulley and I'm happy to help ya.

so i looked at it just now and it looks good. it has very readable green letters on it and has no sign of cracking. so i hope this means it was replaced. the letters say audi and germany on it and some other random codes and also i can see the bolt in the middle of that top pully has wrenching marks on it so sombody must have done it because i dont think they come from the factory with worn bolt heads

Wrench marks on the top (Camshaft) pulley are probably not a good sign. It means either that the person who changed the timing belt tried to turn the belt/cam gear/crankgearby the camshaft - (you should only turn it clockwise from the Crankshaft 19mm, 12pt bolt). If thisisn't the case, it probably means your engine had cyclinder headwork done or the camshaft seal was replaced. Youshouldn't need to see any of that kind of work for an engine <100K miles, so the engine couldhave been poorly maintained or abused.
