Default t High Altitude Performance Chip

About 6 months ago I moved from the Milwaukee area to Colorado. I currently reside at about 6,000 feet elevation, but do a fair amount of driving in higher elevations in the mountains. The first time I took my car our here, there was a noticable drop in performance. I thought maybe it just needed time to acclimate to the high elevation and expected some drop in performance, but not to this extent. I am wondering what I can do to counteract this drop. Is there a good performance chip around that will help fix this but will not cost me an arm and a leg? What else could I do to help fix this problem? New air filter maybe? What would you reccomend?

I drive a 1998 A4 2.8L quattro.

Welcome to the forum. You loose about 3% of the atmosphere per thousand feet altitude. You'll need more boost. Mods are not my forte. Others will probably recommend DV, larger turbo KO4 and a chip APR or GIAC. Good luck.

Well as you can see he posted he has a 1998 2.8 so for any turbo's forget it if you have $5000 you want to get rid of go buy your self the PES supercharger kit but if your like me and don't have $5000 lying around go with exhaust intake there is a performance chip out there but it will not give you much gains

I didn't notice the engine. He needs to get more oxygen into the engine.

I highly doubt a new intake will make a difference to you.

i think u can go to a mechanic up there and get it tuned. I live in so cal and when u go up to tahoe the cars performance drop but the boats up there that we rent have been tuned to the atm so i think u can do the same to ur car. If u can't go to the thread link above and there are a bunch of ways to add some performance to ur 2.8 (i started the thread above). Also, if u cant tune it up there ask a mechanic what most ppl do to get better performance up there. A air intake wont do as much as it does down here b/c there is still a lack of oxyegn in the air.
