Taking a trip, should I take the snow tires off?
I'm driving back to Oklahoma for Christmas and was curious if I should take the snow tires off.
i have my normal set off and the snow's on... the normal set is a z rated series.
it's about a 750 mile trip... one way.
the only thing i'm thinking of is wear on the tire and gas milage...
recommendations?

I have taken some trips w/ my Audi and I have not put the summer tires on, but it all depends what you are running for summer tires. I have bridgestone PolePosition SO-3's for summer, i would not want to use those in the snow, the just would not move, even w/ quattro. The tire wear that you will have from 1500 miles will be minimal on the snow tires, just run those. I have gotton about 25,000 miles out of a set of good snows.
Yeah... tire wear would be minimal for sure... and if you will encounter snow, then you'll definately want to keep them on. But yeah... it just isn't worth the effort... time is money right? I wouldn't spend an hour to save some tread on my snows... Nope. As long as it's cold out, the tires treadwear will be very minimal.
when you say as long as it's cold out.. what temp are you talking about?
it will probably be in the 50's in ok.
i will probably just leave them on. not take the chances in running into snow and ice with the summer tires on
