Hey guys

I am new to this forum and want to get some info on the A4. I currently drive a Honda but have my eye on the Audi A4 for a while now. I am looking to buy a 1998 - 2001 A4 1.8t and need to know more about it. So far all I know is it is a beautiful car and comes in a 1.8 or a 2.8. Which is better? I have heard different things from different people and alot of it seems to be negative.

please fill me and let me know which model you would recommend

Get a 01 ..between the 2.8 and the 1.8 if you want to mod go 1.8 if you just wanna drive 2.8. You can always search at the top of the page for more info.

 

right now I am looking at 00, what makes the 01 better??

 

The 01 1.8tis only better than a 00 1.8tif you dont do any mods. 150hp compared to 170hp. A chip will bring both to about 200hp. Read the stickies at the top of the page, they are there for people like you!

 

2000=150hp
2001=170hp

Can anybody differ with that?

how are the a4's for realiability??

I heard they have electrical problems and such?
how do they compare to a japanese car?

I just got my A4 and i love it! The reliability is differnt with every person. "Most people" dont have to many problems except for timing belt issues which comes around 60k miles that can be very pricy. Electrical problems i have not heard much about maybe another member can enlighten you on that. Against a Japanese car such as subaru a WRX or STI will crush an A4 unless you do alot of mods. But inside the A4 it BLOWS the Subaru away!

So if you want class and some power go Audi if you just wanna HAUL *** go Subaru!

 

Timing belt tensioners were a bad design between 97-99 and can break early. You dont need to get paranoid at 60k miles about yout timing belt w/2000+ A4's
