Default test pipe and exhaust

Ok so im looking for a good test pipe and exhaust system for my 98 A4 1.8TQM. I was originally gona go with Borla for the exhaust but i really dont wana spend 800 on exhaust. Anybody know of something slightly cheaper (maybe like 500-600 range) that are good and a test pipe to go with it? Thanx

I think standalone exhaust = Good.
I think standalone testpipe = Very Good.
I think exhaust + test pipe = waste of money.

Whatever gains you get from a test pipe are only going to be slightly increased by an aftermarket exhaust, from what I've been told.
Considering that you can get a test pipe for under $200, but a new exhaust is 3 x's as much - I'd just spend the money for the one item if I were you. Not to mention that a pipe + exhaust would be as loud as a 747.....lol.

while were on the topic i might as well ask. where should that 600 go? I get the car back from the shop monday and my plans for it are GIAC chip, Forge 007, Greddy Profec B II Boost Controller, and a test pipe(still undecided on what kind(any suggestions)). i have 600 leftover so what do you think would give me the most bang for the buck? or is there nothing that is going to really make a huge dif. and i should just upgrade the looks some more? Thanx

btw the car has k04, and intake
