Default thermostat

I'm working on my 2.8l putting a new timing belt and water pump on. Got it all back to gether last night, fired her up and watched as the temp soared up to the top, I noticed that the heater was blowing cold and I also had a shop fan blowing directly on the radiator, but it kept getting hotter. After getting frustrated and throwing some things around the garage i sat a thought about what I could be. All I can come up with is thermostat or airbubles.

Does anyone know where the thermostat is and also how the bleed the coolant system.

thanks

Sorry I forgot to reply to your email!!

Yes you have air trapped. Do you have the heater on full blast/hot???

Unscrew and lift the coolant resoivoir about 4 inches.
Pull back the left (passenger side) hose that goes through the firewall until the small hole in the top of the hose is exposed.
Top off the coolant as needed.
When coolant squirts out of the hole, push the hose back on and lower the resoivoir.

You may need to do this a couple times to get all the air out.

no but the belt is marked from the water pump escapad that I just went through. I was thinking as i did the belt at pump and pullys, "Hey, I should maybe change the themostat, what a marvalus Idea." but no, I had to put it all back to gether first. You know that how perfesonals do it, Bass Ackwards.

Did you also change the idle pully and tensioner? The engine is only as strong as the weekest link.

Yeah I have my private license. (cessna 172). Nothing special. I've been trying to get in a pilot slot for the Air Guard (c-130's).
