Think I need alignment done, maybe more?
Ok so many months ago I lost it on a turn in the rain and hit a curb, flattened both passenger side tires and cracked a rim. Put new tires on it and the car drove "ok", the steering wheel would shake a bit around 60-80. I also noticed for awhile that I would have to retighten the lugs on my front pass side tire, probably a very bad thing. After awhile it just stopped. I just did all 4 brakes and rotated my tires. When Iswapped my front pass side tirewith the rear pass side tire I noticed that the tire that had been on my front pass side had significant more wear around the sidewalls than the tire from the rear. Now that they are swapped the shaking is back around 60 mph. I'm positive I need an alignment, but I am worried that more may be wrong with the car.
check your tie rods and control arms. can you get an alignment check in your area? it should be free, well it is in my area. they you'll know if it's alignment or wheel issue
Went to goodyear today. Explained everything, the guy was very helpful. Said now that the alignment has been off for so long I should wait to bother with the alignment until I get my new rims and tires because my tires are already worn down unevenly. Also said that the alignment won't cause a shaking of the steering wheel, has to do with the tires being uneven. So F it, guess ill be ordering my new rims and tires soon.
A bent rim would cause the shaking you feel, similar to a tire being out of balance. I have a bent rim on mine, had to put it on the back temporarily until I can replace it because it was shaking the steering wheel at certain speeds. I had the tires balanced twice, and the problem was still there, then the second time around the tire guy showed me how the rim was bent. They can balance it pretty decent, but not perfectly. It can cause uneven wear also.
If there is no play in the steering, and the car will go down the road straight without input, then your alignment may be OK. Still would have it checked though.
