HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, this is fun.

If you weren't such a retard, we wouldn't flame you. Go reread some of your posts, and think about how it looks to other people when you ask "What's the best way to down shift to let the other person know you want to race?"

Seriously man, you're going to get flamed on ANY forum you frequent talking like you do. Trust me, I moderate on one of the largest automotive websites on the net, people like you come around ALL THE TIME, and they leave just as quickly because they get flamed... It's not like they don't get flamed for anything though, they get flamed because they ask really stupid questions, and refuse to admit their own ignorance to the subject, they get offensive far too easily, and they refuse to accept the help/advice of people who are much more knowledgable than themselves.

That is the reason you get flamed. And it will happen at any site you go to, trust me.

You present yourself as a REAL immature 16 year old (You may not be, but that's how you appear to us), and you need to chill out big time, and think before you post on here. Because it may just be an online forum, but chances are, you have the same problems in real life, and you need to learn how to ask questions, and take advice.

That is my view on this, take it for what it's worth.

If you get new headlights... just save up for some OEM 1 pieces from a 99.5 - 2001 a4. You can find them used for like 200~ sometimes... that's well worth it.

If I had a 96, the first thing I would do to it would be 1 piece headlights... completely transforms the car, and makes it look 5 years newer.
The cutting is really no big deal! Ask around on the forums, lots of people have done it... I am sure somebody lcoal would be happy to give you a hand. I'm assuming your 16 with an A4? You seem like a nice guy... a 16 year old that hasn't managed to bring down a flaming upon himself... Bravo, to you!
