Default For those with 6-speed auto on B7

I have had my 2008 2.0T quattro with teh 6 speed auto for about one month and 3,000 miles. I went from a 2007 VW GLI with a 6-speed manual, and pretty much all manual before that... this is also my first all wheel drive.

What I see with this auto tranny on my A4 is this:
[ul][*]does not downshift soon enough when doing moderate speeds in the city... end up reving low in 6th gear, causing it to 'not feel right'[*]Feels as if pushing the car to downshift to 5th, or 4th, etc.. on the highway or back roads, will hurt it.. it feels delicate![*]doesnt like to downshift to 5th on the highway unless you really push it[*]when on the highway in 6th, and you gas it, the revs go up similar to a shooth downshift, but it is still in 6th... dont get me wrong, the car accelerates well from there[*]I am not sure if this is with the tranny or maybe the fact that its a quattro, but at VERY low speeds (ie. parking lots, slowly turning to go over a speed bumps...) the is a deep drone from the caer for about 1 or two seconds.... [/ul]
Anyone have comments on this? Is this all typical stuff for this car and tranny? Im an auto tranny newbie so not sure what is good or bad, normal or wrong.

Appreciate any feedback !

I have a B6 and it does the same thing when in regular D mode. That's why I always drive in 'sport' mode. Not sure if the B7's have a sport mode though.

D mode shifts up way early (to save gas I guess) and doesn't shift down to 1st unless you make a complete stop. When ever I get on the highway and need to get up to speed quick, I just move the shifter to the right on Tip mode and put it in a gear I want

Does anyone have experience with chipping a B7 6-speed auto? How does the tranny handle the power? Does it behave any different?

I drove the Auto expecting to purchase one. After driving the DSG it seemed unresponsive so I opted for the Stick. Hope you can get it figured out.
