Anyone owned both of these or driven both or done research on both? Looking at how they compare. g/f is thinking about an S60...I don't know much about the 1.8t, but they are in the same price range...and I am not a big volvo fan.

The volvo is gunna be faster: Different engines-

The S60 R offers a five-cylinder 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 300 hp 5,500 rpm (manual) or 6,000 rpm (automatic)
The S60 T5 offers a five-cylinder 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that produces 257 hp at 5,500 rpm
The S60 2.5T offers a five-cylinder 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 208 hp at 5,000 rpm

Plus, 5 cylinder engines are cool. But I'd go with the Audi and mod it for myself.. But for a chick, shed probably be happier with the volvo. Either one is going to be expensive to maintain and both are very safe cars.. How is it they are in the same price range?? Are you takling brand new??

 

She is looking at the 2.5T. I checked Edmunds.com for prices and the 2.5T and the a4 1.8t are really close in estimated cost.
She likes to drive fast, so the 2.5t might be more to her liking than the a4...but she also likes the b6 platform a lot...but she has never driven an a4.

 

If shes looking at the 2.5t then she should get an a4 1.8t B6 and chip it fo sho!

 

She's never driven an audi? Once she test drives and Audi she'll want one for sure.

 

my sister just got an s60 and loves it, i drove it and its pretty nice, but for a 2002 the interior sucked, but the brakes were rediculous, it was like they had a big brake kit on it already

 

she's driven my s4, but she has not driven an a4 .

I think we are going to go test drive this weekend...line up a couple of S60s and a couple of 1.8ts and compare.

 

well if you can get a slightly chaper a4 chip and supporting mods then do that but if they are the dsame price go volvo. Might be a bit safer and not as good looking but will have gobs more power. Id go audi for looks alone but for you I think stock for stock volvo.

 

I love volvo's... stay away from the slush box trannies in the S60's though! I was on volvoforums.com a while back (same guys who do audiforums!) and the notorious problem that kept coming up with the S60 was the auto trannies crappiness... that and a tendency to burn halogen bulbs at an alarming rate. Xenon equipped S60's had no issues.

But yeah... the 300 hp AWD S60... sounds fun.

 

I like Volvo's. The S60 is a nice car, especially the R of course, but I would go with the Audi for Quattro and style alone. Just my 2 cents.
