Default Ticking noise in neutral, goes away when i press the clutch in..

what could this be? it sounds very similar to lifter tick, but when i press the clutch in it goes away. It also does it in first gear while driving but as soon as i shift to second it goes away... im thinkin maybe my throw out bearing?? Could my tranny be on its way out?? I really hope not I do not have the funds for a new one, and im pretty sure my tranny is not gonna be bad at 75k miles.

throwout bearing maybe, or pilot bearing. a long shot could be the clutch fork or your clutch slave cylinder, but I don't know if those would give you a ticking noise. probably not. my money's on one of the two bearings.

i had the same problem with my old car (if it rattles loud with A/C on this is the same problem).... We definatley noticed it was the trans makin the noise on the lift, yet we installed a new t/o bearing to fix the problem and it didnt work. Then, a month later the trans went out and had to replace it. I bought a similar VW transmission and put the same setup in... and didnt make the noise. So i have no idea what it could have been.I dont know if it would have been the pilot bearing cause it was fine in the other trans. Clutch fork, or clutch slave cylinder (not sure what this is) but maybe a possiblity. However, as i said before, if you dont find out the problem.....beware of getting a new trans. They said i needed new syncronizers (however you spell it) in first and second gear

one of my co workers that was a mechanic for a while said it was the throw out bearing... so does this mean a whole new clutch?? or just a new TOB? it probably doesnt make much sense just to get a new TOB..
