Default Tie Rods...Finally

Well, I got my car back today, and it still makes the same noise when I turn the wheels and when I'm taking off as it did before. We told our mechanic that we thought it was the CV joints, and after doing a diagnosis he told us that the tie rods were worn. Do these things need time to break in, or am I gonna have to do the CV joints as well??

Thanks in advance.

well it's not rly hard. first u have to have steady hands. u get a grease gun, some grease and a grease needle. then u put those 3 things together. then stick the needle into the boot of the tie rod and pump. only pump like .5 of the lever thingy. u don't want to fill the thing with grease because when u drive it will move and if u have too much grease, it needs sumwhere to go and u can sorta guess the rest. im not gaurenteeing it will work but it def worth a shot instead of taking things apart. and for the hell of it u might as well grease the control arms too. do it the same way. the lower arms can take one full lever length

Thanks, man. I'll probably try to get something done tomorrow. Doesn't sound like it should be too difficult.

If it's grinding it's probably your CV joints, if it's clunking it's your control arms (or TRE but you just replaced those right?)

It's definitely not a grinding noise, so I'm kind of relieved about that. I would say it is more of a clunking noise. Is there a difference between tie rod ends, and the actual tie rods??

My left front does this. Its an age thing, inbetween the bolts in the control arms and basically everything that goes into holding the suspension and wheel, has a rubber, or neoprene type bushing that over time gets worn and allows for some travel. It tends to make some noise. Be sure not to use wd 40 when lubricating them, since that will eat the bushings. Get some silicome sp? or i guess grease and soak it up, you may notice that your stearing feels a bit softer.

Anyway sorry for not being overly specific, my neighbor helped me out with this couple months ago and i forget things quickly so.
