Default TieRod issue Please help

Hi I am new to this forum.
I own Audi A4 1.6Q, ran out around 57K miles, i was having wheel alignment problem , and now i am having slight freeplay in my steering, for the same issue i went and checked with the Audi dealer , they are saying my tie rod is gone and they are asking around $ 450 to fix it inclusive of labor
i am not sure .. how much will it cost.. and what will happen (like affect on any major parts) if i dont change my tie rod for other couple of months, the freeplay is not bad it is managable.

and i have extended warranty on this car, The dealer is saying tie rod and related parts will not be covered on extended warranty because it is wear and tear is that true?.

is my dealer is asking right price for the job.?

Pls advice me what i need to do on this situation..Thanks in advance

Gobi

part price at dealer is quite diffrent than price of aftermarket units,as well as they are probably incluing alignment in that quote which is why so much money, the truth however is that the meyle aftermarket tie rod ends are much better than the OEM ends, i would buy those and just have tire shop install and do alignment, they are very easy to replace and only requires that you have some wrenches and sockets, but if you dont feel comftorble have a tire/alignment shop do it and will save you money no doubt.

DON"T PAY IT!!! HOLY ****! This took me 25 minutes to do on Friday night, and I'm no mechanic. The part costs 60 bucks or so. They are bastards. Find a real mechanic or DIY, but DO NOT PAY THEM 450$ for that. You could fly me out to your house and have me do it for that much money.

Don't give up so easily; it's three nuts, two bolts, and a Sharpie to mark your alignment. There are online guides if you search. Easy. So easy. If you want, I can PM you instructions and pictures.

I highly doubt they can refuse you warranty service for what amounts to an alignment. You could call them, but that would be bogus.
The worst that could happen is that your tires will wear out prematurely.

you cannot void warranty by having work performed by outside shops. as far as marking your aligment with a sharpie that is a gamble here is why, the tie rods are not going to be exact same thread count as oem, ive noticed diffrneces on where the ending thread is and such, for example i bought 2 sets of tie rods for my car already both oem replacements and meyle's, and thread count on em all was diffrent even if its only by like 2-3 threads its hard to compensate and make it perfect, you can make it so its decent and drives somewhat straight, but you really got to get it aligned on a machine to make sure its all good when your done.
