Timing belt
I'm sure you have some time to shop around. I didn't change mine untill 98,000. (Yeah I know I really pushed it.) I never really checked around for pricing because I did it myself. You could by the Haynes manual for $15 and try yourself. If not, I'd definitely go to a place that specializes in Audi's. There are mechanics that work on VW/Audi's that would charge less than the dealership.
i just had my timing belt replaced and paid only $296.23. i just got the car a few months ago, because i didn't know the full history of the car i thought i'd get the belt replaced, along with water pump and pulley, etc. once my mechanic took everything apart they said it all looked pretty new, and thought all i should do is change the belt and a gasket. it's a 99 2.8 with 90k miles.

You got heaps of time dude.. I'm at 140000 km and haven't done it yet.. am about too though.. have already bought it. Don't go to Audi to do it they will change it then give you some **** pleasuring as they get your wallet out. If you confident I would do it myself but if you want to go to a shop you can expect to pay about 300-400 US
300-400 labour, plus parts, which run about 250 for water pump, belt, tensioners.
Might as well do front engine seals while you are in there. Also consider the accessory belts, and if you want, a new snub mount.
