Default timing belt

so i have been quoted at 700, is this a resonable price? also he said that only includes the belt and water pump, he then said that they will check out the pullies and stuff to see if they need replacing. generally does replacing the pullies cost much more? should i tell them to replace them even if they seem ok? they should do the stub mount too right? any help would be appreciated because i want this done right.

Parts, 200-250 for pulleys, water pump, belt, and thermostat.
So, your mechanic wants (at 100 for labor) 5 hours labor. I did it my first time (reman water pump) in 3 hours, second time (reman water pump #2) 2.5 hours, 3rd time (full kit with a water pump that was worth the 80 bucks) 2 hours. My shop quoted me 3 hours. So 450 - 500 for labor, hmmm, sounds like you want to pay someone 166 to 150 an hour. I would say your getting ripped pretty hard, the dealer is probably cheaper (nah, they'll want to use OEM). Make sure your mechanic does thermostat if he does water pump.

Well I payed 400 Aussie dollars for the parts & 200 Aussie for labour. 600 aussie all up. I would recommend going and buying the kit then going a euro mechanic and explain that you were going to do it yourself but changed your mind as you are too busy. Ask him how much he charges per hour. Shouldn't take more than 5 hours max.... Do the math.

here's a list of the parts that you should replace with the timing belt:

timing belt
timing belt tensioner
tensioner roller
idler roller
water pump
thermostat
accessory belt (or if you have a 1.8T: a/c belt, p/s belt, alternator belt)

it's also a good idea to get a new snub mount, cause it'll take you an extra 5-10 minutes since youre already in there for the tb...you can get them at www.greedspeed.com www.purems.com and www.apr.com they all do pretty much the same thing and are all made of the same material...they're just priced differently. if you want to supply your own parts which is usually cheaper in most cases, you can get a kit from www.ecstuning.com it's called the 'ultimate timing belt kit'

60,000 miles but you Audi america will cover most timing belt failures up to 105k milesif all your service history is in order. But you should be changing your timing belt at 60,000 miles.

The tensioner and damper pulley should be changed. The thermostat can be done later, no labor is saved.

........ Don't think so. Is your car still under factory warranty. If yes, then it might be, but if not then I dont think audi america have issued a statement saying they'll pay for control arms.

Also, I have Obsessive compulsive dissorder, so if it were me.... I'd be changing both control arms.
