Default Timing belt? or...?

Hey, i have a 2002 1.8t 5speed. Its got around 67,000mi on it. Still runs strong, but sometimes at idle it feels like it skips a beat. Its very subtle but i notice it. Could this be a timing belt getting ready to die? or something else? Any thoughts from you audi pros? I did a search, but only found people talking about diy replacement not what happens when the timing goes.
Thanks

As far as I can tell your belt kinda just goes, it doesn't really give you any warning (I don't know this so if I am wrong about it somebody please, please correct me)

I do know that your in the millage range to consider getting you TB replaced anyway just to be safe.

What do you mean by skips a beat ( like the car seems to stutter or something?)

Yeah kinda like a stutter, the rpm's don't change, just a little flutter like feeling when at idle/neutral. Does the car just die when the TB goes? Not start up or is there any warning?

When the timing belt goes, the engine just dies. I would just take your car in to be scanned for codes and see what may be stored in there. Autozone will scan for free. Post the codes on line, clear them, drive for 200 miles and see what comes back.

it could be an issue with your maf, or just simply the 1.8 does that every now and then. I know when I had mine, every now and then there would be a stutter sometimes. maybe you are just over reacting. but get it scanned anyway.

yea, the engine just dies... without any warning, it can happen at idle or high rpm. is better to not try to crank it up after that...
