on a scale from one to ten, how difficult would it be for me, myself, who is a beginner to install a new timing belt kit?

If you are a beginner you need to have someone with you who has a good bit of car repair experience. You will destroy your car if you screw up the timing belt installation. There is nothing very hard about the install if you have a 1.8T; so, get a knowledgeable friend to help you and you should be OK.

 

On a scale of 1-10 I give this a 7.
