Default TIMING BELT KITS?

Just a quick question... Umm, this summer will be an unfortunate one for maintenence. We have 3 1.8T's in our family, and all of them will be due for a timing belt in the summer. Our golf has over 100 000 km's on it (60K miles) so its a time bomb pretty much, in my books (though the book says 120 or 140K). The B6 has a bit over 90 000 km, and my B5 has 85 000 km. Soooo yeah.
Me and my buddy are willing to tackle the timing belt change in my car... he's changed the timing belt in his Taurus SHO before, and is confident in his abilities. I hear we dont need to worry about the water pump, because its external in our cars? all of them being 2000 or later?

So yeah, if its possible to change yourself, info would be great... and info on kits that include everything (and of of high quality) would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

ecstuning has complete kits i believe, and i know there's a write-up on aw. it's not difficult to do, it just takes a long time. i've heard that the water pump should be replaced when you do the tb. one thing you should also replace is the snub mount. apr makes one for 50 bucks, or greedspeed has one for $13 (that's what i got)

Snub mount eh? Not even sure what that is... haha :P I'm in canada too, so hopefully these places ship. I still havent ruled out using dealer parts... scares me to NOT use OEM parts when it comes to stuff like the timing belt. I hear the water pump was external... so if it did go after doing the belt... it isnt like a whole wackload of work again. Plus a waterpump should make it to 120K miles or the next t-belt change.

Whoops never even saw your post CL, musta posted it as I was posting mine. Yeah, if that's the case, I'd definately stick OEM... I feel much better with it. It comes with the tensioner, belt, and ... idler pully, right? You had any experience chaning them neil?

as for the water pump on the 2000 and down it is external so I wouldn't worry about that but for the A4 and golf they are the same pump and they are $97.00 each

snub mount is the front rubber mount that the engine rests on as a pivot for its lateral movement. As the snub gets bad/degrades, the engine will buck. Even a small distance of a few millimeters will be noticable as driveline lash.

haha no problem I didn't do mine myself but my next one i probley will seeing as it really doesn't look that hard espically on the A4's seeing the timing belts are on the front when u pull away the rad support you will have a ton of room not like the golf with the transversed engine it will be a little tighter
