timing belt service
It is time for my car to have its timing belt replaced. It is a 1996 2.8Q and I was just curious to see how much this will cost me. I've been told by my mechanic that it'll be $492 which seems too much.
Thanks!
Thanks!
that's a very good price. most places charge over 600 bucks. Make sure he is changing the water pump, idle pully, and tensioner too. Might want to buy a new snub mount for him to install also.
the timing belt only is 492...i think he quoted me around 738 for the timing belt with the water pump...all of the sudden it does not sound like a great price [:@]
He's jerking you around and charging the full labor "by the book" for replacing the pump. Once you go in for the timing belt, it only takes another 15-30 minutes to replace the water pump.
My garage in Phili charged 300 for replacing timing belt, hardware, water pump, front seals, and all belts. They allowed me to bring my own parts from ECS. It took the mechanic close to 5 hours. It was the first time he had done this on an Audi, and he wasn't going to screw it up. Took his time, made sure everything was right, and must have smoked half a pack of cigarettes.
