just bought 98 audi a4 and the tiptronic does not work what should i look for to fix it

 

Did you buy it from a dealership? If so, definitely take it back to them pronto.

If you bought it from a private seller, see if you have any recourse with them to have this issue addressed and have you compesated for the cost of fixing it. But more likely, you're SOL and will get stuck paying to fix it.

If you're paying for it, definitely don't take it to the dealership, it'll prob be pretty expensive. Find a repuatable mechanic that SPECIALIZES IN EUROPEAN CARS, preferrably German cars like Audi and BMW....this is not a job for Jiffy Lube.

what do u mean by doesn't work tho?

Like the manual mode doesn't work or you can't drive at all.

If it's just manual then it's an issue with the tip control probably ... which is cheaper than the whole transmission

it drives perfectly fine and the transmission shifts real good in the regular mode, but when i put it over to triptronic it doesnt do anything when i shift up and down

 

Probably the sensor in the shifter that has been bumped out of place.
