Tiptronic newbie question
When in manual mode I have 6 pre-programmed gear ratios. my question is when I'm in normal drive mode is my tranmission still selecting from 6 different gears? I know this sounds weird but I havent been able to find this information anywhere.
yes in D u are still using all 6 gears, most of the time the car want use the highest gear
exmple when ur goin 45, u can be in 6th gear but the ECU likes to be on 5th
what year is ur car and is it quattro

interesting becasue the 2004 never came with a 6 speed tipronic
which means u have a 6 speed multitronic which is also called a CVT tranny
good luck wit the CVT trannies they had mojor problems in the early years for audi but they say they changed a pump or something and its better now but who knows

multitronicâ„¢
multitronic™ is a continuously variable transmission. The way it works: a power-transmitting steel link-plate chain (tension chain) runs in an oil bath between two variable pulleys. It is capable of transferring torque of up to 350 Newton meters - a world first for this kind of transmission. In addition, it permits an exceptionally wide range of gear ratios. The differential is located in the same compact housing. There are no fixed gear ratios any more. The resulting smooth and powerful acceleration ensures excellent ride comfort. There are also advantages when towing a trailer thanks to the high torque available across the entire engine speed range. The design and the low weight of the transmission help to reduce fuel consumption. As with the tiptronic transmission, manual gear changes are possible, and up to seven simulated gear ratios can be selected depending on version. In the automatic mode of the multitronic®, the dynamic control program (DRP) calculates the optimum transmission ratio for the driver and driving situation, based on load.

i been in the audi scene for a while and i never seen aa ultra sport CVT or heard of one for the B6
maybe ur car is a regualr A4 with ultra sport stuff
do u have the rear kit also, the lip spoiler and the door blades, do u have brush aluminum interior and a leather wrapped speering wheel and shifter (the letehr on the shfter and wheel should have alot of holes on it)

Yep, I have all of that. Thats why i have all the questions too. This must have been a special order vehicle but I have the window sticker and it doesnt say anything about a 6spd. It does say CVT and Ultrasport. I'lll grab my paperwork and look for any small piece of info i can find....and you were right it was the ABS pump that was making the noise.
