tires?
hey everyone....i have a 05 a4 special edition leased, not looking to void out any warrenties .....looking to put wheels on the car...was just wondering if the is anything i need to do as far as balencing...someone said i might have to go back to the deal to rest something????hope you guys can help...[:@][&:]
if you put bigger wheels on you car, the computer still thinks that you are on 17's or whatever u came wiht stock...so..if you go to a bigger diameter wheel, the speedometer reading will be less than the actual speed at which you are traveling...so thats why you may need to go to the dealer...they can re-calibrate the ecu to match with the new wheels...im not sure how much it'll cost you..but knowing Audi dealers, it'll cost you nthign short of an arm and a leg..

well i know i'm leasing but still want the car to look good....never know i may end up buying it come the end of the lease...i baby it now...my plan really isn't tp go bigger...maybe 18 but probally gonna go with 17's.....anyone have suggestions as far as tires for the spring summer season...i plan on putting the all seasons it came with back on for the fall/winter...thanks again
Hmm, the speedo thing is only true if you go to a tire with larger diameter... instead of a 225/45/17 run a 225/40/18 or something... the online tire places usually give you a diameter, so you know what your dealing with. IF you go down from the 45 to the 40... your speedo wont be out anything worth noting. As far as tires go... jeez... everybody has their favs eh? I like the Toyo T1S, Firestone Firehawk Sz50EP (if you can find them -- not in 18's though)... umm, tirerack has some tire, avon or something... it looks really good.
I'd stay away from continental and other OEM brands... conti's are SUPER expensive, and although performance doesnt suck, it isnt great... and they have the lifespan of a house fly. If you baby your car, get something with a high treadwear, at least 300. All seasons are often quieter tires, and last longer... so you've got some decisions to make... 17's or 18's... and then based on driving style, high performance or something with higher tread wear... 17's and 18's arent cheap... so blowing 1000 on conti's, and then replacing them 20K miles later (often less), would sorta suck.

go to www.miata.net there is a tire size calculator on there and that will tell you if and how much your speedo will be off
